Phuket Airport Introduces Automated Passport Control
Passengers departing from Phuket International Airport will soon experience faster immigration processing with the launch of new Automatic Border Channels (ABC).
Starting on June 13, 2026, the automated system will be available in the international departure passport control area. The initiative aims to improve convenience, reduce waiting times, and streamline passenger flow during peak travel periods.
The new technology is part of ongoing efforts to modernize airport operations and enhance the travel experience for both Thai and international passengers.
Who Can Use the New ABC System?
To access the automated channels, travelers must hold a valid electronic passport (E-Passport).
Thai nationals will be able to use all available ABC lanes, while additional eligibility requirements include a minimum height of 120 centimeters.
Passengers traveling with oversized baggage taller than 120 centimeters will not be permitted to use the automated lanes. The system is also unavailable to pregnant women under current operating guidelines.
Before entering the channel, travelers must remove masks, glasses, and hats to allow accurate biometric verification.
Passport Requirements
Airport authorities have outlined several requirements to ensure smooth processing:
Passports must be in good physical condition.
Passport covers should be removed before scanning.
Only one passport may be placed on the scanner at a time.
No other items should be placed on top of the passport.
The passport must have at least six months (180 days) of remaining validity.
Following these guidelines will help reduce delays and ensure the automated system operates efficiently.
Airport Renovations Underway
As part of preparations for the ABC rollout, sections of the international arrival immigration area are currently undergoing renovations and system upgrades.
The renovation work is expected to continue until July 9, 2026, with some areas temporarily closed during construction.
Airport officials have apologized for any inconvenience and thanked travelers for their patience as improvements are completed.
